You need a flash cart though.
If DSi, go for AceKard2i. That's what I have. One of the first out, so that means extensive customization has been used on it. And AKAIO is good firmware.

To be a bit more in depth. The first 4(at LEAST) gyms are barely affected by your choice. The only one that is would be the bug gym in Azalea(sp?), and frankly, I find it to be one of the easiest gyms ever. No need for Cyndaquil. Also elements are quickly obtainable compared to some games.

Grass: Bellsprout
Water: Wooper
Electric: Mareep
Ghost: Gastly
Rock: Geodude(Possibly trade for Onyx)
Ground: Geodude(He is 2ndary Ground, and learns Magnitude early.)
Poison: Ekans
Bug: Ledyba/Spinirak
Psychic: Slowpoke(Though it will need to be trained to level 15-ish to get confusion)

Those are all obtainable before the 2nd gym. In fact, 3 of them are obtainable before the 1st.

Also, I purposely left out fire types because I dislike them, though you would need to wait until between the 3rd and 4th gym, to obtain a Growlithe, or a Vulpix. Unless you hatch your daycare egg into a Magby.

In any case I believe Chikorita to be the best choice for a solid team, so I'll be starting with that.

Probably. In Ruby and Sapphire we had little hide outs using Hidden Power.

why would you need the fort if in HG/SS you'll probably be able to decorate your WHOLE HOUSE like in the old G/S.

But in the old G/S I believe you could only change certain objects that were already there (such as the gaming system and the doll). Also, you can't just find a secret base and use hidden power on it, and see a different base that is not similar to the previous base you made.


Forts>Houses by far. Especially if it has the link option that ruby/sapphire had where when you wifi with someone you would see an npc of them inside your fort, that'd be awesome to have that effect on wifi. As well as a turnoff option/delete option to prevent from trainers crowding already tooken spaces. That'd be awesome.

Good luck even remotely playing it for hours.. R4DS can't play it well w/o many patches.

I use a CycloDS, playing Pokemon Soul Silver just using Rudolph's anti-freeze patch, and I haven't froze once yet.

I also traded some of my Pokemon Platinum pokemon over to Soul Silver to make it tons easier, ABSOLUTELY!

I'm currently at Kanto and just beat Lt. Surge.

Well a rom is the game which you drag onto your Emulator to play the game.

Basically a rom is a copy of the game (illegal if you do not actually possess the game) that can be played through specific "emulators" which basically create an environment where the games can be played in.
Like for example, no$gba is an emulator used to play Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS games. It may not be up to par with an actual DS, but it tries.
Roms can also be played on a DS as well through what are called flash carts. These are basically cards the size of an average DS game and have a slot for a MicroSD card. These cards basically have the same function as a DS game, except without the game or information on them. You put the roms and the flash cart firmware on the MicroSD and insert the MicroSD into the flash cart and tada! You have both free and illegal games.
Btw, flash carts are only legal because their original purpose is to play homebrew games. They don't say on their sites "you can play roms with these".

playing hG/SS on an emulator is really slow and choppy and it freezes/deletes your save a lot.
there really isn't a patch that fixes it since it's a problem with the emulators itself.

There really isn't any "best" flash cart. They all function well and do about the same stuff.
Big problem with flash carts like Acekard is the hardware isn't upgradeable aka if Nintendo blocks flash carts in an update, Acekard's pretty much toast unless they flash it with something like the Danny Phantom fix.

Edit: FYI I use Acekard 2i with AKAIO firmware.

You can transfer Pokemon to non legit games. You could also get a PokeWalker from a friend if he doesn't want it and there you go!

No, I mean you can't transfer between the Pokewalker and your own game if the game is illegit. Because the game has a built in IR receiver.
