View Full Version : Collaborated blog.

As some of you may have seen, I have proposed the idea of a blog collaboration from all the willing contributers of this forum.

as Spadow stepped off, a lot of small, but potentially big blogs have grown like weed.

then I thought, why not pool together our resources, and make a blog that kicks motherfucking ass?

not only will it bring more members to this forum, but it will also make the site almost free, due to the high traffic we should get.

I like the idea. From now on, I can colaborate with KMST screenshots and such. After this term ends, I'll colaborate sending energy and grattitude to the admins. Is that ok?

We should get writers and translators in, translate them to different languages too.

We should do a blog that has contributions by writers from every version of ms

We could start with kms, and later we can have one other writer from another version of ms... continue,

But we should use all our resource first to make a good KMS Blog before going into other versions or smth like insoya.com I love insoya except for that fact that its in Korean

We could even get resources from some other sites like the skill animations from Fiel at Southperry etc and make it a mega update database that covers everything from changes to event guide.
Also having a donation option would be nice too!

if this comes to life, I will ask Fiel for permission.

I could try doing Japanese translations (I'm not fluent, so I won't be fast or anything, but I can get it done).

Also, if you decide to support JMS updates/information as well, I could write all of that, like I do with my blog already (http://shikage08.wordpress.com/category/japanms-updates/)

I like this idea because we could use some ad revenue on the blog to help support hosting EF.
I asked Spadow if he could suggest a blog for his readers, but he said he didn't want someone to abuse his good name in the community, e.g. he suggests it and the blog is absolutely horrid.

WTF? How can the hypothetic blog be horrid? Kyo could show a bit of support. It's EF. He knows us.

(if u want to post or edit an entry u must pass a lie detector :cardcrusher:)

-Wikis are completely different than blogs
-Wikis are organized completely differently
-It's so much easier to write a blog than it is to update a Wiki for everything.
-It's so much easier to explain things in full detail with pictures on a blog than it is with a Wiki.
-It's more likely to get people to read your blog than it would for them to read your Wiki.
-Lie detectors prevent no one from doing anything.

That's about all I can offer, but I think a wiki would be better.

Why would a Wiki be better?

With Wikis, you can't explain things through experience. Wikis are more like databases for information layed out in sections for people to find certain information easily.

With a blog, you can easily write out all information about a topic and include personal opinons and personal experiences with the subject.

I think a blog would be far more robust as far as new information about KMS(T) goes. A wiki would only serve a purpose of housing unbiased, unopinionated information with no experience of such information provided.

Tay

I dunno, a blog for new stuff would be very nice.
But a wiki for things as they pile up might or as they pertain to kMS only might be more useful.

It's whatever, both would suffice.

ShiKage
06-13-2011, 01:05 AM
Both would be nice. An English database for KMS would be very good, I think. I would be willing to help out with either.

Why wouldn't you want to inform people? It feels good to help out the community by providing information about new stuff. They're going to get that kind of information anyway from Fiel's extractions and other people poorly translating Korean player's blogs/insoya posts, so why not accurately provide that information in English for everyone so that no false information or rumors get spread everywhere?

Tall Justin really wants the blog to be made, so he can redeem himself by helping, after ruining the limbo party we had planned.

since this idea seems extremely popular... why not? I'll go ahead and see what I can do to get it going. the only thing I can think of that would give us problems is knowing who can post what... so this could take a while to get all the kinks smoothed out. input is welcome as always!

If it's an addition to the forum itself, you can set up a user group specifically for those who have special access to modifying posts in the blog. Erich and I did this on the Dragon Nest and Vindictus forums we had (except it was a Wiki instead of a blog). It's a very, very simple solution if you can get it to work.

unfortunately that wouldn't be possible without a large startup fund, since the blogging software that goes with vbulletin is only available on vb 4... :(

but I think a wordpress will work just fine anyway.

Jay
06-13-2011, 03:48 AM
you should just create a wordpress

ShiKage
06-13-2011, 03:53 AM
Wordpress is the most simple thing to work with, so that's fine.

You just need to give out the account information to only trusted members who will not leak the information out, unless you'll just have one person implement everything after other people have written out what's needed (that's far more tedious, though).

Jay
06-13-2011, 03:57 AM
i suggest tj have the account info, rest of us write of us write it then pm him the info and tj posts if its good or something like that

Even if it's a bit tedious process, I think a administrative figure should indeed administrate the blog as well,
and people who want to share something should send it to him by PM's.
Kinda like....When a writer checks in with the editor before his/her column is added to a magazine :)!

@^, no i wanna post here.
i suggest that everyone that wants to submit a blog, that he sends it to one of the "blog mods"
for approval, and then to be uploaded to the blog by the mod. that way we can filter out spam or crap without compromising the help of thers
we could start with wordpress or w/e to monetize, and once we win some bucks, we could update
to vbulletin v4, or things like that and get a good goood blog.
i don't like wikis very much, i suggest a blog better, with hq content.

It's your choice but yeah I agree with the idea but what about just some people being the normal blogger who will update the blog and not everyone so that we could get information as fast as possible if we have to pass through the 'blog mods' it will be quite slow to put up the information on the blog

I'm actually surprised that readers often start off late. They usually miss out contents way back.

E.g. Removal of 50% party exp and high hp mobs.

Since the blog is gonna start off late, I think it's best to clarify what content kMS actually have right now. We can add on stuffs from kMST too as long as Nexon stop nerfing the retard cannon shooter.

I suggest no more than 2 writers for the blog. I mean, everyone can send them guides and stuff, and then they put it on the blog.
It has to be under control. Else people would end repeating info, various post for the same thing, and such...

Also, I find it ok to make the blog for new updates info, and event walkthroughs. But please, leave the job guides and that kind of stuff for the forum.
