I dunno.. I think it would be nice to have.
Hidden-street has one and it's mostly spam, but occasionally a question gets answered there via link to thread or by text, and it prevents the creation of spam threads, right? (Hopefully?)

It will reduce the posts, people will eventually use only the chat box. This has happened to two other forums.

I think it depends on the forum though. If the members are more discussion oriented, they're going to make more posts, and if they're more troll/spam oriented, they tend to use the chat box more. I know in HS the major chat-boxers are also quite troll like. (Myself included, I must admit)

Personally i think its a good idea of a chat box it will probably attract more people to talk and communicate wit the community. :) and also will be more help for ppl like me needing it.

We already have IRC chat.
