Since there is no GENERAL Maplestory section, I guess this is the best place to put it.
Anyone here use an Xbox 360 controller to play MS? And if so, what is the best program to use to map the keys?
And don't turn this like SW is. I want YOUR OPINIONS, not what google says.

Wouldn't it be pretty useless? Since we would only have like 4 buttons for skills, possibly r1 l1 r2 l2 for boosts and jump...? Or am I missing something?

Joy2Key to play, and you wouldn't type with it, duh. I'd still use a keyboard for stuff like that. It just seems much more comfortable to use a controller.
Also, all the buttons and functions on a controller can be used, you just have to assign the functions based on your keyboard's already set buttons.
And yes, this probably wouldn't do too well for 3rd/4th job where there's at least 6-8 skills you use on a regular basis. But I'm trying to make grinding more....enjoyable, if that's possible.
Also, 360 controller has no black or white buttons anymore. They got turned into L1 and R1.
Btw, I tried it a few days ago. Kinda okay, the analog sticks though. If I could solve that problem, I might actually switch to controller for training.

I personally use a PS2 style controller and it works out fine for me, I agree that joy2key is a very nice program and it's what I use to map the keys for the versions that don't have joypad support. I would like to try an xbox 360 controller to play maple, and it would give me an excuse to get an xbox.
EDIT:

Do you mean the analog sticks are tough to move or map wit joy2key? I use the right analog stick for mouse and the left one for moving around, you can also set the d-pad with POV1,2 etc. so you can set your buffs there and use the other keys for attacks/pickup. I'll download joy2key on this computer and see if I can make a video guide or something if you like.

No I mean the movement actually sticks. I keep moving after releasing the stick. :/ And I won't use the analog sticks for mouse movements.

xpadder (http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Xpadder-Download-45445.html) works a lot better than joy2key, because it allows triggers to be used, + you can change the sensitivity (make a medium to high sensitivity with joysticks so that you have to move it midway for it to actually register movement, unlike it moving .1 millimeters and it registers).

xpadder doesn't work for Windows 7 afaik.
I'm going to try Pinnacle Game Profiler....if my forum account gets validated.

remember not to set autofire for your movement controls.
controllers work REALLY well for third & fourth job if you're creative. the set up that I had for my captain was made so that I had one profile for out-of-ship mode and one for battleship mode. when I pressed in the left joystick I would get on the battleship and switch into my controller's battleship mode. this made it so that I had my primary attacks (triple fire / rapid fire and battleship cannon) always on the same button as well as my secondary attacks and skills the same way. it's a very comfortable set up.
another thing you can do is set a key to each direction of the right joystick. ie, if you shift the joystick up you'll ride your mount or whatever, and if you shift it down you'll use a skill. there's SO MUCH you can do with a gamepad. my favorite thing I ever did with the joysticks was when I trained at zombies back in 05 or 06; I set the right joystick up so that when I shifted it left, it changed one channel backward, and when I shifted it right, it changed one channel forward. if I pressed the right joystick in, it would type in all chat "Would you mind changing channels please?" and press enter.
tl;dr: I LOVE GAMEPADS.

Lol nice TJ. Supah-pro. <3
But anyways, I'm going to try Pinnacle now. They validated my forum account, so I can download profiles <3
That was awesome Tj. I'm hopefully soon going to get a Xbox 360 for my birthday, and maybe 2 controllers, 1 for me and 1 for Matt. All I'm wondering is, wouldn't you have to connect the controller and computer? If so, where would I get the cord?
Thanks, this thread has helped me alot.

Lol I've thought of this too. I'm just a bit worried how it works.

Xbox 360 wired controllers plug into the usb on the xbox, therefore you can just as easily plug it into the usb on a computer.
If you're trying a wireless, shoot yourself.

Lol win.
But yeah, Xbox 360 wired controllers come with a USB adapter attached already. In fact, if you lose it, you're kinda screwed :( why they made it detachable I dunno.
Wireless on the other had require this:

And I'm not exactly sure if all the software with xbox 360-specific settings work with the wireless either.
Just get at least one wired controller. One comes with the Xbox 360 afaik.
I traded my old roommate one of my wireless controllers for his wired one. No regrets~
