Korean Help
This guide contains the bare minimums you need to play korean maplestory efficiently.
How does 님 fit in?
If you've already started playing kms, then you've probably been followed by someone who kept on saying 님. You most likely had no clue what it meant. Maybe they were begging for some mesos?
님 is actually a term used when trying to get somebody's attention. For instance, if you were walking around town and somebody said "Andrew님", they would be saying something like "Hey you, Andrew!".
님 is made up of three characters. ㄴ, ㅣ, and ㅁ.
Let's break it down to understand how it works: (click on the spoiler)
ㄴ sounds like 'n'
- - - - - -
ㅣ sounds like 'ee'
- - - - - -
ㅁ sounds like 'm'
- - - - - -
There are up to three characters in each 'letter'. So when you add these three characters together, you get something that sounds like 'neem'.
So, the korean language puts everything like this:
Consonant -> Vowel -> Optional Consonant
Yes, the Korean language also uses consonants and vowels to make sounds.
Character sets can be made of two or three letters. 비 can be a set, and 님 can be a set. Words can be made up of one or more character sets.
Consonants
ㅂ|ㅈ|ㄷ|ㄱ|ㅅ|ㅁ|ㄴ|ㅇ|ㄹ|ㅎ|ㅋ|ㅌ|ㅊ|ㅍ
Character|What it sounds like
ㅂ|'B' sound
ㅈ|'J' sound
ㄷ|'D' sound
ㄱ|'G' sound
ㅅ|'S' sound
ㅁ|'M' sound
ㄴ|'N' sound
ㅇ|Silent as first character, '-NG' sound as last
ㄹ|'L' sound
ㅎ|'H' sound
ㅋ|'K' sound
ㅌ|'T' sound
ㅊ|'CH' sound
ㅍ|'P' sound
Vowels
ㅛ|ㅕ|ㅑ|ㅐ|ㅔ|ㅗ|ㅓ|ㅏ|ㅣ|ㅠ|ㅜ|ㅡ
Character|What it sounds like
ㅛ|'YO' sound
ㅕ|'YUH' sound
ㅑ|'YAH' sound
ㅐ|'EH' sound
ㅔ|'EHH' sound
ㅗ|'OO' sound
ㅓ|'UH' sound
ㅏ|'AH' sound
ㅣ|'EE' sound
ㅠ|'YOU' sound
ㅜ|'UU' sound
ㅡ|'UUU' sound
How do you type in Korean?
Look at this:
http://www.emagasia.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/korean-keyboard.gif
^Print this out or something. You'll probably want to use this often.
Looking at this keyboard, you'll notice that there are orange and blue keys. The left side, orange, contains the consonants. And the right side, blue, holds all the vowels.
To type the characters, you'll need to add korean to your list of keyboard inputs. Google it for now.
On the keyboard, there are some keys that have two characters on them. Those are double letters and work like capitals. Use shift and that key to print them.
If you find that you can't get korean working on your computer, try this:
http://www.wandel.person.dk/korean.html
Further Information
Although Korean works out similarly to English in terms of grammatical usages, there are certain aspects of the language that can be confusing. These are things that you may find useful, but are not completely necessary.
B]Subject Endings[/B]
At the end of every subject word, like "메이플" or "캐릭터", there is always a character after them.
Character|Usage|Example|Meaning
은|When there is a consonant|캐스펌은|Casperm is...
는|When there is no consonant|캐릭터는|Character is...
을|When there is a consonant|메이플을 [verb]|[verb] Maple
를|When there is no consonant|캐릭터를 [verb]|[verb] Character
이|When there is a consonant|메이플이|Maple is.. [going to do something]
가|When there is no consonant|캐릭터가|Character is... [going to do something]
의|When there is a/no consonant|메이플의, 캐스릭터의|Maple is..., Character is...
희|When you are talking about the older person in front of you or older people|너희, 저희|Your, My (polite)
를/을
is used when you are talking about other people, to make sure who you are talking about.
Example – 테드를 사랑합니다 (I love ted)
Example - 캐스펌을 사랑합니다 (I love Casperm)
는/은
means “to be/am/are”.
Example – 나는 테드입니다 (I am Ted)
Example – 너는 캐스펌입니다 (you are Casperm)
가/이
is used for when you do something. It is always put after the noun.
Example: 가 – 태드가 축구를 합니다 (Ted is playing soccer)
Example: 이 – 캐스펌이 야구를 합니다 (Casperm is playing baseball)
Credits to: Imitazion's friend Ted.

If you include this please add this *USE AT OWN RISK*
Also a tip from my uncle, when talking to someone in korean its alwayse polite to wait and let each other chat with one another and don't start blabbering into conversations, this will help you in makeing trades w/ koreans that don't understand english at Freemarket.

I don't know if this fits in, but this is if you get called some derogatory stuff.
병신/ㅄ (qudtls/qt)= Bitch
변태(qusxo) = Pervert
씨발/시발(Tlqkf/tlqkf) = Fuck you
가셈(rktpa) = A rude version of 자리요(wkfldy).
Most of the above will have an extender in it, like " ' ", "1", or something like that, so they can type it out.
Example: 병1신.

Use 은 when there is a consonant – example: 캐스펌은
Use 는 when there is no consonant – example : 캐릭터는
Use 을 when there is a consonant – example: 메이플을
Use 를 when there is no consonant – example: 캐릭터를
Use 이 when there is a consonant - example: 메이플이
Use 가 when there is no consonant – example: 캐릭터가
Use 의 when there is a/no consonant – example: 메이플의, 캐스릭터의
Use 희 when you are talking about the older person in front of you in front of you, or of older people – example: 너희, 저희
를/을
is used when you are talking about other people, to make sure who you are talking about.
Example – 테드를 사랑합니다 (I love ted)
Example - 캐스펌을 사랑합니다 (I love Casperm)
는/은
means “to be/am/are”.
Example – 나는 테드입니다 (I am Ted)
Example – 너는 캐스펌입니다 (you are Casperm)
가/이
is used for when you do something. It is always put after the noun.
Example: 가 – 태드가 축구를 합니다 (Ted is playing soccer)
Example: 이 – 캐스펌이 야구를 합니다 (Casperm is playing baseball)
some stuff I wrote down when talking about korean with an ingame friend. :)
full credits to him! (Ted)

Try setting korean as your main input language.

A minor fix, edit and copy-paste it. :)
캐릭터를 [verb] | [verb] Maple
shoudnt it be 'character'?

Max is right, Casper just copypasta'd.
Also, I believe those things Casper is talking about are particles. If not, they awfully sure do resemble them.

Depend on how you want it to be pronounced.
If your name is Bar, type it as 바르
Your last name Pakula, if its Pa-Ku-La type it as 파구라
if its Pak-KuL-La, type it as 팍굴아
Alright im going cranky also, ask some korean to help D;
I wish someone could teach me korean D;

발 would be bal. it is typed as chuanjun wrote it; as for your last name im not too sure. it really depends how its pronounced. if its definitely a strong "p" sound it's not written like that, and i feel the 구 is wrong.
박 cant be pak, because it's park. lol
