I refuse to reformat. if anything I'll convert my hard drive into an external drive and use it on another PC someday but I'd be heartbroken if I had to delete everything :(..
made a recovery console disc today, hoping to fix my PC tonight ;__;

That's why you invest in an external hard drive to save all your crap on.
Makes reformatting less painful.

Make a Linux/Ubuntu/Kubuntu or whatever live system you can get a hold on.
Boot the DVD.
Don't install the system, but do a live boot.(temporary operating system)
Move all the files to a different partition(D:, E:, F: and so on will work, unless you have your system on one of those)
Works with external harddrives too, USB flash drives and such.
Good luck~~

I haven't reformatted for years for the same reason. I have too much data that can't be deleted, my burner doesn't work and I have no external hard drive...
I also need a new PC btw, but I can't afford it until like 2012... :S
