NOTE: There are TWO SEPARATE RANTS IN THIS THREAD.
1: KMS kids
I sort of expected this but meh...
Typing in korean. I love how random players say hi to my evan noob while I chillax in hensys, but I wish they would stop judging me for typing/replying back korean so damn slowly. Yes I am foreign (I even tell some of them) and yet you guys are so impatient -_-
It's kinda like how my cousins react to me when I chat so I should not be complaining...BUT ARGH MY KOREAN TYPING. IT IS EPIC FAIL.
Also, I know you really cannot TELL what age the IRL players are thru the character...but please. You guys can be so condescending. UGH.
2: Fanart
This is more of a personal/selfish thing but anyway...
I have almost already accepted the fact that my life will be revolve around art. As much as I love drawing and put a lot of effort in them, I sometimes get crushed by the fact that I will not be able to like...be part of a game design team to make cool stuff for players. I am just a relatively decent fan artist who can mimic styles well...
When I actually returned to play Maplestory, my old dream of working for Nexon came over again. The last time this happened was in HS. Now two years into college, I should not have this aspiration. Other than being a Korean and having my citizen number that defines me as a Korean citizen...I have absolutely no connection to even try out the career. Plus, would it be a waste to pursue my science degree and then go for that dream...even though I am not even sure if I really want to?

I haven't had that sort of problem with my Japanese typing. I remember trying the Korean layout and that was really difficult to use.
About your dream about being that kind of artist, I don't know. As much as I like supporting artists, do remember that it's pretty tough to hit success. I have a couple of friends that have similar dreams and have started their careers, but it's just a rough road.

for the first one: don't reply them in korean, do it in english, most koreans know how to speak in english, so just do that. korean people is very cool thou, a little unpatient, but cool indeed! :D, just give them sometime, i've had very pleasant conversations with them on english.
about the second detail... i would answer but i am too sleepy, i will write something tomorrow.

yeah if you talk to them in english they'll respond better. they won't believe you're a foreigner if you speak to them in korean, hell sometimes they don't believe it if you tell them in english. most of us on the forum have made awesome friends with the people of culverin just because we don't speak english. one of my best friends from kMS learned english just by being in our guild. it's pretty amazing.

If you want to get into Game Design you should get into direct contact with the companies you are interested to work in, most of them offer traineeships that last several months & will give you a permanent position if you did well enough during those months. Also you should study Game Design on your college or study related courses, such as Media Design for example. You can become one without studying game design & doing traineeships instead, but that'll be the a lot harder way. To get into touch with the Game Industry you should start visiting industry related sites such as www.gamasutra.com (if you're american, especially http://www.gamasutra.com/jobs/ will be holy to you), www.gamecareerguide.com, http://www.gamesindustry.biz (if you're European / from UK) , they all have helped me a lot. Also you should sign up profiles at business networking sites such as www.linkedin.com and www.xing.com , those are also vital to a career these days. Also a classic tip, google for job ads of jobs you'd be interested in (that's how I found out that Nintendo was looking for Game Testers last year). Also, most companies have their own web based job notice-boards, check them out too. E.x. if you wanna work for Nexon, Nexon America has their job ads always on nexon.net and Nexon Korea also has a exclusive website just for their job ads.
Oh and before you start to think "wtf what bullshit is he talking about o_o", I work at Nintendo these days, so you can trust me on those tips :hero:
Edit: And no, there's no way that entering the Game Industry would be the waste. Since I'm in it I never want to leave it anymore

I was aware of the job ads, but unsure on how to apply. I guess I'll have to see...(not to mention take those media classes...but my college tends to be kinda mediocre with that...hmmm)

You find many faqs regarding on how to write your resume & application letter for the games industry on gamecareerguide.com.
For example, about writing resumes, this article helped me a real lot:
http://tinysubversions.com/2009/04/writing-a-resume-for-a-game-company/
And this is one of the best FAQs till today
http://www.igda.org/node/1008833
And like I said you can try doing Traineeships in companies instead of taking media classes as well, it's just harder that way. But many famous Game Designers studied things that aren't even remotely related to Game Design, prime example being Shigeru Miyamoto.
I'm going that way too btw, currently I'm Game Tester at Nintendo and I'll work up my way in the industry to become a Game Producer (of course I gotta take evening classes once I got a permanent position too - at Nintendo I'm only leased staff). But for me it's different reasons why I do the hard way though :x

Have you considered an art minor? I can almost guarantee you that a science major is way better than an art major, but if you really love art that much, you can consider getting an art minor (or even a major, but that'll be a lot of work).
Also, does architecture interest you? You use many of the same skills in architecture so you may want to consider that :<
IMO, you should do what you want and study what interests you.

I'm going to get a hobo minor, and major in the art of living in cardboard boxes. You won't be as rich and successful as someone like me, but I wish you the best of luck in your quest to becoming a game art/graphic designer.
